Born a farmer, Marvin spent day and night on the farm, tilling the fields, milking the cows. He loved it.
But God had other plans. Marvin enrolled in seminary and soon met his wife Shirley.
For more than 30 years, Marvin and Shirley shared the love of Christ with a flourishing interdenominational church and school they founded in Illinois. But, retirement came knocking and the couple and their children’s families moved to Colorado. Soon after joining one New Life Church, Marvin was asked to be on ministerial staff.
Then, a wake-up call came. God spoke to Marvin: “Your best days are yet to be! I want you to plant a church in Knoxville.”
Marvin came for a visit, calling on local Knoxville pastors. He was told to expect dry ground, a place incapable of welcoming the supernatural power of Christ’s love.
His heart was for Knox County.
Even though they didn’t know anyone, they all moved courageously and expectantly. Along with their two daughters and their families, they came to Knoxville in 1995.
God put within Marvin and Shirley a deep love for the people of Knoxville and the surrounding nine counties. There is nothing they enjoy more than loving people with with love of Jesus and sharing the good news of what God can do. With God, all things are possible.
